Nigel Sainsbury joined the U.K. Royal Air Force (RAF) in January 1977 as an Aircraft Propulsion Technician straight from school at age 16. After 11 years in the Non-Commissioned ranks, he gained his Commission and spent another 16 years as an Aero-systems Engineer. He has worked as a maintenance engineer at the operational, Intermediate and depot level and has worked alongside industry partners in support of operations. As an Associate Health and Safety Consultant he has worked with General Managers and CEO's to develop safe systems of work and risk mitigation strategies from his own devised safety audits within a variety of industries including automotive, rail, food, logistics and warehousing. In 2004 Nigel moved to New Zealand with his family and during his second military career in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, he was the Director of Aeronautical Engineering, Commander of all Ground Training which included technical and non- technical trades, leadership and induction training as well as course and training development. Prior to his final military diplomatic assignment in 2012 as the Defence Adviser for Canada and Air Attaché to the United States in Washington D.C, he was the the General Manager of all off aircraft and general engineering maintenance sections. In 2016, he decided to take a sabbatical and ride his motorcycle around the world for six months before returning to the USA to marry his American Fiancée and resettle in the USA. Through the process of lifelong learning, Nigel has acquired a wide range of practical and academic skills and qualifications across a range of functions, including but not limited to, HR (including mentoring/business coaching), Project Management, Safety (including accident investigations), Teaching, Regulatory & Policy Development and Audit and Compliance. He has also received, developed, and delivered extensive leadership training over the course of his careers and looks forward to bringing something a little different to the US workplace with his international experience. Nigel is also a self-published author and helps others who are keen to see their own work in print. Nigel has retained citizenship of both the UK and NZ and looks forward to adding the USA to his list.
